Demand side management & aggregation

Introducing vast amounts of renewable generation in the power system creates a strong need for storage capabilities in the power grid. Demand side management is a highly advertized candidate technology for introducing scalable (virtual) storage solutions by employing flexibility in existing infrastructure. In this lecture we discuss how this can be done by introducing another layer of energy management based on a case study for Danish supermarkets. Further, we discuss how to aggregate large numbers of demand side management with a focus of homogenous vs. heterogenous aggregation. This is exemplified by aggregators consisting of portfolios of supermarket and ice storage systems with demonstration results.
