Stable and Unstable Objects in the PDE Analysis of the Navier-Stokes Equations
Vladimir Sverak, Professor, School of Mathematics, University of Minnesota,

We will discuss examples of stability, rigidity, and instability of solutions. At a conceptual level, we know what the important principles are. However, in concrete situations, the analysis suggested by the general principles is often elusive. We will discuss a few examples, including vortex rings, where rigorous results can be obtained, together with some open problems, such as stability issues in possible singularity formation.
