Computational Mathematics + X
The Computing and Mathematical Sciences (CMS) Department at Caltech is seeking postdoctoral researchers in computational mathematics and applications (CMX); see: http://cmx.caltech.edu
Caltech's CMS Department is a unique environment, focusing on applied mathematics and allied fields, emphasizing fundamentals and methodology, the interactions between areas, and the role these fields play in advancing science and engineering more broadly.
We invite applications from researchers in all areas of applied mathematics and statistics including (but not limited to) mathematics of data science, numerical analysis, optimization, probability, scientific computing, signal processing, and uncertainty quantification. We also invite applications from researchers who have demonstrated strong connections between computational mathematics and applications in science and engineering. As an integral part of their postdoctoral training, postdoctoral scholars may opt to teach a course with the permission of the CMS department.
A CV; a research statement; and a statement of teaching are required. The teaching statement should address the applicant's thoughts on classroom instruction, mentorship of students, and ways to foster an inclusive, equitable environment for those who come to Caltech with many different backgrounds and experiences.
Applicants must also arrange for three confidential letters of reference, one of which should address teaching. Applications will be reviewed starting November 7, 2024. All complete applications received by November 30, 2024, will be guaranteed consideration.
