Trying to understand the cerebellum well enough to build one
I am interested in what brain systems compute, how their circuits, cells and synapses implement that computation and in what role learning plays in these processes. We study eyelid conditioning in the rabbit because it permits analysis of the cerebellum (and more recently prefrontal cortex) at this level. We augment these studies with the use of large-scale simulations of the cerebellum. The properties of eyelid conditioning facilitate biologically relevant interactions between these experiments and simulations. I will present empirical and simulation results exploring the role that temporal coding plays in cerebellar computation and learning.
